Musculoskeletal Conditions

Welcome to

DeMaio Chiropractic Services

Musculoskeletal is a general term which is defined as relating to muscles and the skeleton. Thus, the musculoskeletal system involves the:

· muscles

· bones

· joints (the place of union between two or more bones)

· bursa (fluid sac between the muscles and bones that forms in areas of friction)

· ligaments (a fibrous band of tissue connecting bones)

· tendons (a fibrous band of tissue connecting muscle with bone)

Musculoskeletal conditions comprise over 150 diseases and syndromes, which are usually progressive and associated with pain. They can broadly be categorized as joint diseases, physical disability, spinal disorders, and conditions resulting from trauma. Those conditions with the greatest impact on society include rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, low back pain, and limb trauma.

Population surveys show that back pain is the most common site of regional pain in younger and middle aged adults, and knee pain in older people. In individuals of working age, MSC - in particular back pain and generalized widespread pain - are a common cause of sick leave and long- term work disability and hence a big problem for the individuals affected, with huge economical consequences for society and companies.

The following are a few of the more common conditions we will explore:

Muscle Spasms

Bursitis and Tendonitis

Arthritis and Osteoarthritis

Osteoporosis

Spinal Stenosis

Degenerative Disc Disease

Spinal Compression Fractures

Low Back Pain

Whiplash

TMJ

Myofascial Pain Syndrome

Repetitive Stress Injuries

Plantar Fascitis
