Chiropractic Visits

Initial Evaluation

A patient does not require a referral by an MD before visiting a doctor of chiropractic. At your initial appointment a thorough evaluation will be performed. This will include completing a comprehensive medical history to be reviewed, a physical exam done by a chiropractor, and having x-rays taken.

Laying the Foundation…………………………

Chiropractic care is foundational like math: certain groundwork must be lain before more advanced concepts can be addressed and understood.  Without a strong understanding of basic principles (a firm foundation), complicated equations are unintelligible. The same is true for your body. Your body has to go through a specific process in order to repair itself correctly and fully. That foundation must be there for total wellness. There are three general phases of chiropractic care . . .

Relief Care Phase

If you are in pain when you come into our office, the first objective is to help you feel better. Depending on the severity of your problem, it is typical to need care 2-3 times per week for 4-12 weeks. These sessions can be a single modality or a combination of multiple modalities to get you back your activities.

Corrective/Restorative Care Phase –Striving for Optimal Living

This phase requires 4-8 visits to a chiropractor per month for 6-24 months, depending on the severity of the condition and the client's overall health. During the corrective care phase, muscles and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely in order to prevent further injury in the future.

Most chiropractors regard the elimination of symptoms as the easiest part of a person’s care. If all that the chiropractor does is to reduce the pain and stop there, the chances of the condition recurring are much greater. In order to prevent a rapid recurrence of symptoms, it is necessary to continue receiving care even though your symptoms are gone.

During the correction / restorative phase of your care, adjustments are not necessary as frequently as they are in the first phase of care. Depending on individual physical fitness, exercises and stretches may be introduced to be done either at the center or at home to aid in the healing process.

Do not be discouraged if you have mild symptomatic flare-ups occasionally. This is normal. Flare-ups simply let you know that your body has not fully healed yet. Remember, this phase can last anywhere between a few months to a few years depending on the nature and severity of the injury; therefore, patience and persistence is key.

Wellness Care Phase – Maintenance is Key

After your body has healed completely, it is important to come in for periodic adjustments to avoid future problems. This usually consists of a quick visit to the chiropractor 1-4 times per month, based on your lifestyle and goals. These periodic check-ups can help ensure that your physical problems do not resurface, while keeping your body in optimal condition. Remember, following up is a part of the healing process and helps to ensure the health of your musculoskeletal system.

When you make routine chiropractic care a part of your lifestyle, you prevent many of the aches and pains that so many people endure. Additionally, your joints will last longer and you will be able to engage in more of the activities you love with greater comfort and ability.
